Rambert2 auditions FAQs 2020-2021

Registration for Rambert2 auditions are now open. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all spaces have been filled you can join the waiting list by emailing auditions[ATSIGN]rambert.org.uk.

Book your audition slot here.

Open auditions cover two routes to dancing with the Rambert2 ensemble:

1.   Audition for a place on the MA Professional Dance Performance programme, delivered by Rambert School of Ballet & Contemporary Dance and validated by the University of Kent;

2.   Audition for a ‘direct membership’ place with the Rambert2 ensemble.

Places on the MA Professional Dance Performance programme are currently only available to UK/EU/EEA students.

Individuals from outside the UK/EU/EEA who are not eligible for the MA programme, or anyone who does not wish to complete the MA programme, are welcome to apply for a ‘direct membership’ place with the Rambert2 ensemble.

For more information about Rambert2 and the MA Professional Dance Performance programme, please visit the audition page and Rambert School website.

Is there a fee to audition?

Yes. There is a non-refundable administration and application fee of £20. This must be paid before your place at the audition can be confirmed.

Please note that as the administration of your application to audition begins at the point at which you pay the £20 fee, in the event that you cancel your place, withdraw from the process ahead of the audition, or fail to attend on the day of your audition, the £20 fee will not be refunded. By registering for the audition and paying your fee, you are agreeing to these terms.

Please contact us in advance if you require financial assistance for the fee. We may be able to help.

What experience are you looking for?

Whether you’re applying for ‘direct membership’ of Rambert2 or for a place on the MA Professional Dance Performance programme, we’re looking for exceptional contemporary dancers with limited professional experience.

We welcome applicants with different technical bases to their training or experience, but you must have appetite and aptitude for the kind of contemporary dance made by the choreographers creating work for Rambert2. You may have recently completed, or be currently completing, full-time vocational dance training at a conservatoire or university. You may also have equivalent experience in a company or organisation.

How old do I need to be?

Applicants must be over 18 years old on 1 September 2020. We are looking for dancers at the beginning of their performing careers.

Do I need to be UK-based?

Rambert2 ensemble is open to dancers from anywhere in the world.

Currently, only applicants from the UK/EU/EEA are eligible for the MA in Professional Dance Performance programme.

You must be able to speak, read and write English. If you are applying for a place to study on the MA Professional Dance Performance, there are specific English language requirements (please see the course summary document on Rambert School’s website.

Dancers selected for ‘direct membership’ of Rambert2 may require a visa and are not eligible for student status. We will help you with the visa application process.

You will need to base yourself in or near London for the duration of your time with Rambert2.

What is the direct membership route?

Dancers with direct membership have the same day to day experience with Rambert2 as dancers on the MA in Professional Dance Performance.

Do I have to travel to London to audition?

Yes. If you are planning on travelling from outside Europe, please contact us on auditions[ATSIGN]rambert.org.uk.

Please contact us in advance if you have any access requirements.

If you cannot attend the London auditions, we regret that we are unable to accept DVD/video link auditions.

How will the auditions work?

When you register online you will need to choose an audition date and time. On that day please arrive at the specified time to register and receive your allocated audition time slot. The full audition process will be detailed in an email you will receive once you’ve paid the £20 administration fee and registered.

Dancers attending the audition must be available for their allocated audition slot and the recall days (if selected). Rambert Company reserves the right to ask auditionees to leave at any point during the audition; this may be after a very short period working in the studio. Due to the large number of dancers attending auditions we are unfortunately unable to offer individual feedback.

Do I need to prepare anything for when I register online?

Yes. Please prepare a personal statement which should include brief information about yourself, your background, and what interests you about completing post-graduate study and/or being part of the Rambert2 ensemble. It must not be more than 800 words. This will need to be submitted alongside your registration details.

What do I need to bring on the day?

Please bring a one-page CV and headshot when you attend the audition (a passport photo is sufficient as we just need it to be able to recognise you).  You may choose to include your photo printed on your CV, or attach it to the CV.

You will have access to a warm-up area 30 minutes before your audition starts. We request that you familiarise yourself with current and recent Rambert2 repertoire if you are planning to attend the audition.

More information about Rambert can be found on our website.
