Schools & colleges

Rambert works in partnership with schools and colleges throughout the UK, providing a range of opportunities that support the curriculum and inspire both students and teachers.

Through connecting with Rambert, students are able to engage with both heritage and innovation, as our history as Britain’s oldest dance company is constantly refreshed by the creation of new dance works.

Drawing on Rambert’s rich repertoire of new creations and iconic productions enables us to provide in-depth insight into the work and creative processes of some of the world’s leading choreographers. Our education work is devised and delivered by industry-leading experts, and has a proven track record of encouraging engagement, insight, curiosity and creativity in students of all ages.

We offer a year-round workshop programme with schools throughout the country, giving students insight into Rambert’s work, the chance to explore their own creativity, and opportunities to develop their critical thinking skills.

Our schools workshop programmes are categorised into 2 strands:

  • Repertoire workshops
  • Choreographic workshops

Repertoire workshops consist of a contemporary dance technique warm up, Rambert repertoire and a short choreographic element based on the repertoire the workshop is focusing on.

The available repertoire is:

 A Linha Curva – Itzik Galili
 Rooster – Christopher Bruce
 Ghost Dances – Christopher Bruce
 Swansong – Christopher Bruce
 Life is a dream – Kim Brandstrup
 Grey Matter – Benoit Swan Pouffer*
 Rouge – Marion Motin*
 In your Rooms – Hofesh Shechter*

*Current or recent Rambert repertoire

The choreographic workshops are delivered in a different format to the repertoire workshops and consist of a contemporary dance technique warm up followed by choreographic themes, ideas and tasks using current or recent touring Rambert repertoire*. The workshops would be a starting point for students for creating their own work and allow them time to develop their ideas with a Rambert animateur and can used in support of the choreographic elements of the GCSE and A-Level Dance specification.

We are also able to develop bespoke workshop packages to meet the needs of your students and development of dance in your School.

Rambert Experience Days

Rambert Experience Days are an opportunity for school groups to explore Rambert’s rich history and repertoire and gain access to original archive materials. Experience days feature a repertoire workshop delivered by one of our trained Animateurs, a visit to the Rambert archive and a tour of our home at London’s South Bank.

Experience Days can be tailored to meet the needs and areas of study for your students at any level.
