Rambert’s first music fellow commissioned for Last Night of the Proms
Rambert is delighted to share the news that our first ever music fellow has been commissioned to write the opening fanfare for Last Night of the Proms, 2014. Gavin Higgins was appointed Rambert’s music fellow in 2010, an appointment which led to What Wild Ecstasy, a collaboration with choreographer and Rambert Artistic Director, Mark Baldwin.
Gavin says, ‘It’s a massive honour to take on such a prestigious commission, although slightly daunting. I’m very excited to showcase my music to such a large audience across both in the UK and internationally. Opportunities like this don’t come around very often. I really believe my writing has universal appeal. Driven, rhythmic music with a strong dance element is the territory where I feel most at home. Velocity will be a celebration of music and of movement.’
Rambert is looking forward to working with Gavin again on a forthcoming project.
Sakari Oramo conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra in the world premiere of Gavin Higgins’ Velocity (BBC commission).
