Audio-described performance announced

Rambert is currently involved in a pioneering new project with the Audio-description organisation, VocalEyes, to present the first audio-described contemporary dance performance. VocalEyes is already well-established as the leading describer of plays and traditional narrative ballets, but this project aims to also give blind and partially sighted audiences access to modern dance.

As contemporary dance is usually more abstract than traditional ballet, the description will be focused on the mood and rhythm of the movement, and the overall shape of the dancers on stage. An accompanying touch tour will enable patrons to experience, through touch, the costumes, dancers' bodies, and size and feel of the stage space.

Rambert's pilot audio-described performance will take place at Sadler's Wells, London, on Saturday 24 May, 2.30pm.
