Rambert Dance Company - Workshop Programme

'It was a gloriously uplifting experience and seeing what the children could achieve in such a short space of time was amazing. The animateur was an excellent and inspiring teacher.' Feedback from a school teacher, February 2009

Workshop Programme

Rambert has a long history of working in schools and colleges to deliver high quality dance workshops to students of all ages and abilities.

Led by a Company Animateur (a professional dancer and teacher) workshops are specially tailored to meet the individual needs of each school or college and focus on a selected piece of work from Rambert's existing repertoire.

Rambert's repertoire provides a rich context for young people's engagement and participation not only with dance, but also with music, contemporary visual art and design and science.

Rambert is able to lead workshops in schools and colleges as well as with youth and community groups in regions throughout the United Kingdom. Workshops are tailored to the individual needs of each group and are suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities.

Each workshop contains:

  • Screening of A Day in the Life of Rambert short film.

  • An introduction to the workshop.

  • A contemporary dance warm-up.

  • Repertoire - an opportunity to learn sections of the focus work.

  • Choreography - students follow set tasks to choreograph their own work.

  • Sharing - students perform and discuss their work together.

Current workshops

The Comedy of Change
The workshops for The Comedy of Change have been developed in partnership with the Teacher Science Network and have involved Rambert's Learning and Participation team working with scientists and science teachers to develop the content for the workshop programme. The workshop has been carefully planned in order to maximise its potential for science education and cross-curricular links. The Learning and Participation team is also grateful to the Charles Darwin Trust for providing training and advice for the development of The Comedy of Change workshop programme. The workshops will be suitable for dance and performing arts students but will also be of benefit to students studying or with an interest in science.

A Linha Curva
Suitable for all ages and abilities, Itzik Galili's sensational work makes for a fun and energetic workshop. Participants learn a range of phrases from the Brazilian inspired piece and take part in tasks that look at choreographic structure and spacing.

Carnival of the Animals
Siobhan Davies' popular work is a suitable workshop focus for all age ranges. Students learn sections from the Elephant and Swan solos and develop their own choreography based around themes from the work.

Swansong
The Swansong workshop enables students to have a real understanding of the choreography and themes in Christopher Bruce's powerful work. The workshop is suitable for any groups above Key Stage 3 and is particularly relevant to students studying GCSE Dance.
