Animateurs
There are currently 13 Animateurs working for Rambert on a freelance basis. The Animateurs are not dancers with Rambert, but they are professional dancers and teachers, responsible for the delivery of the practical education work.
The Animateurs need to be technically strong contemporary dancers and excellent teachers, creative and good at communicating with all kinds of people. They may have to teach a class in a primary school, to A Level students, to a youth dance company, to a group with special needs or to teachers. They are called Animateurs rather than teachers because the job combines dancing, choreography and teaching.
Much of their work involves going out on tour with the Company and teaching workshops in school and colleges in and around every town where Rambert performs. The Animateurs prepare for their work by attending training days at the Rambert studios where members of the Artistic Team teach sections from a work in current Company repertoire.
The Animateurs then work with Learning and Participation to devise creative tasks suitable for workshops with a range of participants. We try where possible to echo the creative process of the Company in workshops.Being an Animateur can be hard work and requires a huge amount of skill and experience.
On the whole it is a very rewarding job where the results of your work can be seen immediately.
