Rambert announces new Chair
Theatre impresario Howard Panter embraces his lifelong passion for dance by succeeding Prudence Skene CBE as Rambert Dance Company's new Chair.
Rambert Dance Company, Britain's leading contemporary dance company, has announced that Howard Panter, Joint CEO and Creative Director of The Ambassador Theatre Group Limited (ATG), has been appointed as Chair of its Board, succeeding Prudence Skene CBE, who stepped down on 1 December 2009.
Mark Baldwin, Rambert's Artistic Director, and Nadia Stern, Rambert's CEO, say:
"Prue has served as Chair of Rambert Dance Company for nine years. During that time she has seen the Company go from strength to strength and it is due to her vision and tenacity that we have the prospect of moving into new, purpose built premises situated on what must be the best site in London for Rambert to be located - the heart of the capital's cultural quarter on the South Bank. Prue has been an absolutely wonderful Chair and she will be sorely missed.
We are delighted, however, that Howard Panter has agreed to become Rambert's new Chair. Howard is a well-known figure in the theatre world and we are very happy that Rambert will continue to be led by someone who is highly knowledgeable and passionate about the performing arts. We believe that Howard will be a tremendous support in helping us realise our ambitions, both creatively and in relation to our new building. These are very exciting times for Rambert and it is great news that Howard will be working alongside the Company. "
Prudence Skene CBE, Rambert's Chair 2000 - 2009, says:
"It has been an amazing nine years and I feel very privileged to leave the Company not only in wonderful artistic shape but with a very strong balance sheet. We have also now completed the agreement for the land where our new building will be built on London's South Bank, ensuring a centre for the Company's creative future. It has taken some time to get to this point but we are now well on our way! I am delighted that Howard has been chosen to be my successor, and feel that it is a real tribute to Rambert to have recruited someone of his quality."
Howard Panter, Joint CEO and Creative Director of The Ambassador Theatre Group Limited (ATG), says:
