The Autumn Tour is looming - Caroline Hagley
Posted by: Caroline Hagley on 19 August 2009
After a lovely holiday it is finally time to return to the creative process for our two new pieces. The Comedy of Change has developed over the summer break: alongside the first idea of black and white costumes there is now the introduction of chrysalises and hooded unitards in single colours of black and white for the final movement.
The chrysalises have moved from being an initial costuming idea into a prop/set piece so this has been passed over to the technical and stage management side of the team. They are working alongside Duncan Mude, who also created the toucan wings and crosses for Eternal Light last season.

I've met with Asalia Khadjé, the costume designer for Tread Softly, and had a productive meeting with her and the choreographer, Henri Oguike. The women's costumes are short, pretty dresses, and the men will be in tops and trousers, but the two are linked through fabrics and detailing. Asalia is based in Holland, and decided to source all fabrics for the piece over there. She will be arriving in the UK this week as she is not only designing, but also making the first-cast costumes, so she'll be fitting and completing two or three in time for our marketing photo-shoot in two weeks time. This is a slightly different way of working as it is quite rare to have a designer for dance who can make as well. The second-cast costumes are being made in the UK by two of my usual makers.
The rest of my time, at the moment, is spent continuing to catalogue and archive last season's pieces, and also to prepare for this season's tour which is now less than five weeks away...
