It's all go at Rambert - Otis-Cameron Carr

Otis-Cameron Carr © Simon WeirI have been at Rambert for ten weeks now and I have to say it's been like diving into the deep end of a swimming pool, which for me is a bit scary as I have had a bad experience with a certain pool which shall remain nameless!

My first week consisted of watching and desperately trying to learn material from A Linha Curva, which was very frustrating as I could not get the co-ordination for the phrases as quickly as I had hoped. However, without realising, I managed to learn the men's section after a few viewings and found myself running it on my second day. There was, and doesn't seem to be any time for wasting.

Moving on to four weeks later, and I made my debut not only with the prestigious Rambert Dance Company, but at the one and only Sadler's Wells Theatre, which to be honest was a big deal for me. I always said as a student that "to dance on the Sadler's stage would mean that all this [training] was worth it!" It was a great feeling to be taking the curtain calls, and also to receive three standing ovations.

Another three weeks went by and we have my second debut of the season. Once again, I was called upon to replace an incapacitated dancer in Eternal Light. I was lucky enough to have a DVD at my disposal to learn what I could in my spare time, and then had a little coaching before performing it on stage at the Grand Theatre, Leeds. Needless to say I was extremely nervous, but it went well, gradually improving over the four shows.

And finally, I was asked to step in for another dancer for a workshop piece, due to the inevitabilities of injuries which most of us fall foul to at least once in our training and or career By this point, I'm feeling like a nervous wreck as I have been playing catch up for the past eight weeks and am starting to doubt my capabilities. All for nothing I might add as the performances at The Place (Season of New Choreography) went pretty well.

Now I can breathe for a second (just the one I might add) and then its creation time for next season which I cannot wait to get my teeth into! Bring it on I say!
