543# Carnival of the Animals. Please Help!
By Ruth Fisher on Fri, 6 November 2009 at 01:17:29 PM
I hope someone can help me. My daughter is studying dance and drama at college. She was in a full length play this week and so had to miss seeing Carnival of the Animals (Siobhan Davies) the evening before the first performance of her play as she was in the last rehearsal for it.
Does anyone know if there is a dvd of it, that we can buy? I would be very grateful for any help. Bad staff planning has made this a real problem.
Many hopeful thanks,
Ruth Fisher.
538# Ghost Dances update

Many people are asking about Ghost Dances so I thought I'd copy and paste an earlier reply here, unfortunately the situation has not changed: originally posted 4 Dec '08
"Many of you have requested that we produce a DVD copy of Christopher Bruce's Ghost Dances. You may already know that the film we sold on our website was danced by The Houston Ballet and was available on VHS. Earlier this year we looked into buying more stock to sell on our website and we were told that it has been discontinued due to an expired license. Although Ghost Dances was choreographed for Rambert, we were not involved in the production of The Houston Ballet film so we are not in a position to renew the license. I believe there is also a copyright issue with the music so I doubt that a straight forward re-license would occur.
I have just spoken to Christopher Bruce and as promised I passed on all of your comments. He understands your frustrations and is sorry he isn't able to do anything about the situation as it is out of his hands.
My advice would be to contact other companies that have performed Ghost Dances to see if they hold a copy. If we get further information in the future we will post it on our website and on Facebook."

Oh, I was so disappointed to find that this is no longer available!
What are the chances that this will be brought back?? It is such a wonderful piece.
Thanks.

I've been trying to track down Dvds of some of Christpher Bruce's marvellous ballets; I remember having seen Ghost Dances & Journey, and also Sergeant Early's Dream, on sale in the past, but now cannot seem to find any of these. Is there any liklihood of these pieces being re-released? It would seem a shame - and clearly others feel the same - when there are terrific performances of these ballets in existance as recordings, that one cannot buy a copy to enjoy (and be moved by) again and again at home.

I think that if Ghost Dances does not re-appear on DVD.VHS it will be a major blow to the dance world as it is truly, an astounding piece of work. I also think it should be because so many colleges etc study ghost dances as a proffessional performance for BTEC/Alevels and this will also disapear as it is a great dance piece to refer to in written exams!
Bring it back to life!

Ghost Dances to date has been the best dance performance I have ever seen. It literally took my breath away. Please, please make this wonderful work available on DVD. Please pass this request on to Christopher Bruce who created this masterpiece. I am entenally grateful for the experience.
Thank you

What a moving and emotional piece of dance. I felt assaulted on all senses and was carried into the light on the beauty of the vocals and the movement on stage. Thank you for putting together such a wonderful show at Theatre Clwyd.
I stumbleD across this sight as I too am looking to upgrade my Ghost Dances video to a DVD....CAN'T BELIEVE SOMETHING SO IMPORTANT HAS BEEN DICONTINUED!!!
