281# ETERNAL LIGHT

By Chris and Pam Harmer on Wed, 26 November 2008 at 05:52:39 AM

We attended a weekday matinee, and I have to say this was the best live dance performance we have ever seen BY FAR. My wife was in tears at the end. The overt symbology of the descending crosses was courageous of you, and the live music soloists made the experience somehow intimate. We last saw Rambert several years ago in Plymouth and we are amazed at how you can just keep improving.

What a performance! I took my goddaughter along to the performance as she had never seen contemporary dance before and we both came away absolutely buzzing with opinions and ideas. We both adored Goodall's music and the whole feel to the requiem piece. Swanasong was as brilliant as the first time that I saw it when I was about 10. It was the first contemporary dance that I had seen and it blew me away then as it did this time - sheer Bruce magic!

I admired the dancing but I found the music unduly protracted and at times somewhat banal. Although the other two pieces were terrific perhaps there was not enough contrast. Still amazing dancers.

Saw the performance in Bath recently - absolutely fabulous - wanted the first half to go on for ever. Music costumes and dance were sublime. Took my fourteen year old daughter for the first time and she was entranced. Looking forward to the next opportunity to see the Rambert perform again - have been a lifelong fan and have never once been disappointed.

My husband & I thought this was the most moving and beautiful theatrical experience we can remember, so much so that we have booked to see it again at the Malvern Theatre. The combination of the music, voices and dance worked superbly.

One small niggle - we weren't sure about the bird - thought a touch of comedy was being inserted at first, which jarred with the rest. But it didn't spoil it for us. Maybe we're missing something!

My wife and I saw the performance at Theatre Royal, Bath.

What a spectacle, we loved every minute - it was breathtaking, gorgeous and full of passion and story telling - Thank You

We then took our kids to see you again at Malvern.

One of our daughters is a big dance fan and we loved sharing our experience with her.

I particularly loved the final piece, Infinity.

Went to see your performance at Bath - awesome!

First time I have seen your show and had I had my choice I would have got into dance via classical ballet, where there was a story I could follow (I'm a tad old skool sometimes) So glad I came straight to you. Could not believe I could be so moved by dance and music. Parts of Eternal Light brought tears to my eyes and I would never have thought that 3 dancers and a chair could tell such a powerful tale. Not that Infinity did not touch me too but Eternal Light and Swansong amazed me!

259# Infinity, Swansong and Eternal Light

By Sally on Sat, 15 November 2008 at 02:00:38 PM

I saw the matinee performance of these three ballets on Friday 7th Nov. I found Infinity very interesting, it made me sit up and take notice. I found I had to concentrate (no bad thing) as unused to hearing 'music' that is all percussive. The next ballet Swansong was tremendous, very moving and powerful, clever , funny and witty. Excellent all round, and just another example of Christoper Bruce's great talent.
But I was so disapointed by Eternal Light. I didn't like it at all. I found the costumes annoying and interfered with the performance; some of the numbers reminded me of Strictly Come Dancing; I didn't like the singing and didn't see the relevance to the dancing. So, sorry to be so out of tune with other comments on this site.

Mesmerising
Worthy of mention, the backdrops & lighting - brilliant.
Not so fond of the soloists though.
Overall - thouroughly recomended.

What a magnificant performance on every level. It surpassed our expectations and even my husband (who I did not expect to like it as much) was truly impressed and we were both in a trance for the rest of the evening! Can't wait for the next tour. Many thanks.
