Rambert Event by dancer Antonette DayritI loved the Gerhard Richter print on the unitards, and I was happy I picked a cut unlike anyone else’s, although there’s no getting away from how exposing they are on all of us. You can spot mine on the rack as it’s the shortest one (a few in from the left). Here’s Adem Ilhan, Quinta and Philip Selway just before the dress rehearsal. We were excited to finally be rehearsing to their music, after weeks of rehearsing to only Jeannie Steele’s voice or silence - which is the standard way to learning Merce Cunningham’s works. In this photo, taken in the Linden Studio, I was focused on an earlier correction received which was to look at the ceiling instead of my hand. Unfortunately, the Gerhard Richter artwork for this studio wasn’t installed until opening night, but once they were I was looking directly up at them. This is ten minutes in and I’m promenading in Sounddance. I began here in the Marie Rambert studio before moving up to the Linden Studio on another floor and then later on back again for the ending. This is the position I always hear Pierre’s stomach rumbling in rehearsals, but during this dress run and the performances I was concentrating so hard that I didn’t hear it - though he assures me it happens every single time.I was really pleased it all came together as it wasn’t only our first time with the music, but also the first time with lighting and costumes, plus the added pressure of having an audience present. Everyone felt the dress rehearsal went really well.
