Rambert featured on new GCSE and AS/A level dance specifications
Rambert is delighted to be a compulsory area of study on both the new GCSE and AS/A level dance specifications being offered by the AQA exam board.
Rambert is passionate about engaging young people in dance and connecting them with the work of the company. Being part of these new qualifications will provide young people with the chance to explore important works from the Company’s repertoire and inspire them to develop their own creativity.
Itzik Galili’s popular work A Linha Curva will be studied as part of the Dance Anthology for the new GCSE dance specification. Students will have the chance to see this work performed live when the piece comes back into Rambert’s repertoire in May this year. A Linha Curva has its revival premiere at Sadler’s Wells, 10 – 14 May 2016 and will tour to venues throughout the UK in the autumn. The Sadler’s Wells performances will also feature Terra Incognita by Shobana Jeyasingh, who is a choreographer that students can choose to study as part of the new AS/A level dance specification.
For the new AS/A level dance specification, students will research the work of the Company from 1966 – 2002. This covers an important period in Rambert’s history, when we made the transition from a classical company to contemporary dance company. Students will have the chance to study the work of Richard Alston, Christopher Bruce, Siobhan Davies, Robert North, Ashley Page, and Glen Tetley. The A level will also provide all students with the chance to study Christopher Bruce’s Rooster.
