Rift, my dance piece for New Choreography 2014

I received this amazing opportunity to create for New Choreography, but only being at Rambert for one year I was unsure. However, because of my love for choreographing, I decided to go for it! I couldn’t pass on this great opportunity to grow and develop as an artist, and with Rambert’s talented dancers to work with I would’ve been silly not to.

Below are a few photos of the choreographic process, and also a couple of videos: Researching movements – a video I filmed of family, friends and colleagues, but not saying why; I then watched their body language without sound or faces / Inspiration – the inspiration for my piece originated with this YouTube clip; an advert from my native Denmark that illustrated the fatal consequences of not wearing a seatbelt whilst driving.

Researching movements

This video was made to explore the use of body language, and how this could be developed to create dance material for my piece Rift. I interviewed eleven people from different backgrounds and origins. All of them were aware that they were being filmed, but had no idea which questions would be asked.

Inspiration

The inspiration for my piece originated with this YouTube clip; an advert from my native Denmark.
