640# Theatre Clwyd Performance
By Carole Speller on Mon, 12 April 2010 at 10:28:21 AM
Hello - I attended with a group of friends the outstanding performance you gave at Theatre Clwyd Mold Flintshire on 12th March this year. I was so pleased to receive your postcard requesting comments and these are:-
The choreography was incredibly expressive and the outstanding quality of dance was breathtaking. We were all uplifted by exuberant dance and your dedication to your art by perfecting your Choreographer's direction.
Looking forward to your next performance in our area of Wales.
Kind regards and every success to your present tour.
637# a long-term follower of Ballet Rambert/Rambert Dance Company

Christopher Bruce's Hush was entrancing from the very first moments to the final steps. I loved the atmosphere, the set, the costumes, the choreography and, of course, the dancing.
In contrast Comedy of Change was by far the least engaging of any of the Rambert ballets I've seen in many, many years. There was no rhythm whatsoever; the 'tone' remained the same throughout - i.e. it was monotonous. I was bored - a rare experience as I love dancing of almost any kind. The last dance was highly rhythmic, entertaining, invigorating - and fun. The dancers are superb.
Overall, with the exception of the Bruce ballet, the programme didn't quite reach the high level of last year's programme, Eternal Light, which was rivetting from start to the stunning finish. I think of the whole programme often.
Thank you to all your wonderful dancers and choreographers and to everyone who works to make these occasions such a thrilling experience.

13th March. I bought my ticket to see Ballet Rambert at Theatr Clwyd principally to watch \"The Comedy of Change\", which seemed to be a very imaginative and exciting prospect. In fact I was bowled over by \"Hush\" and \"A Linhe Curva\" and rather disappointed with \"The Comedy of Change\", which seemed very dull and repetitive albeit after such a promising and dramatic opening. The animal world would seem to offer so many opportunities for dance exploration - particularly comic opportunities- which I felt could have been brilliantly executed by the Company - and the costumes surely could have been more colourful. OK we had the brilliant crysalis forms from which the dancers variously and comically emerged but why not fewer crysalises and some other life cycles eg birds cracking out of eggs frogs emerging from tadpoles..? And the music too - so delightful in the other two performances somehow failed to inspire. If it hadn\'t been for your other two lively \"tried and tested\" performances I would have had a very lack lustre evening.

The whole programme was excellent, but what really struck me was the analysis of key ideas from the theory of evolution through the medium of dance. It was very thought-provoking on many levels; perhaps one of the most intellectually challenging pieces I have ever seen. The dancing was great, as ever, but this is something different.

I bought the ticket for my friend for Christmas and what a treat we both were mesmerised. A Linha Curva ranks first as the most spectacular dancing and settin and accompaniment I have experienced (the other being Alvin Ailey) We were lucky enough to sit on the front row and not only were captivated by the exhilarating on stage display but also by the amazing percussionists who were so inventive using their whole body as well as instruments to produce a quite magnificent driving beat. I can't wait for the next time ( please come back soon)

this was the first rambert that my sister has seen..we bought it as a surprise present for her....and she, like us, is eager for the next!....it was like dreamworld...coming in from the cold outside, to a fantasy played out with brilliance in front of us...mesmerising
we left the theatre high..and mighty...and improvised the last piece of drumming all the way home
thank you dancers, choreographers, musicians, for our best night out in a long time
630# Quite Wonderful
By BPT on Thu, 18 March 2010 at 04:21:45 PM
The whole programme was quite superb. Hush was a wonderful and absorbing starter, beautifully and sensitively danced. Yes, the Comedy of Change was more serious and perhaps the music was not to everyone\'s taste, but we found it fitted in well to the spirit of the dance - which was no less beautiful although slower and more restrained. As for A Linha Curve, it was simply spectacular - the dancing was fantastic, the lighting most impressive and the music exhilarating. This wasn\'t the first time we\'ve been to see Ballet Rambert and it certainly won\'t be the last.

I endorse what others have written. I wish I had read the triptych on Comedy of Change beforehand because I might have enjoyed it more if I'd understood it better but of the 3 marvellous performances of the night it was the one I enjoyed least although technically I'm sure it was brilliant. I found the music grating by the end. A Linhe Curva was a terrific way to end the night. The dancers clearly enjoyed every minute and the lighting effects were superb.I enjoyed the contrast between the 3 dances.A terrific show.

A well balanced programme. Hush maintained Rambert's reputation for witty and delicate comedy, performed with superb technique to an imaginatively chosen score, and to which the audience responded with great delight.
The Comedy of Change was a virtuoso piece, set to a demanding score, and danced with great intensity and control; unfortunately I found it difficult to follow the line of the synopsis, but the overall mis-en-scene was so absorbing it compensated.
A Linha Curve provide a total contrast: its exuberence and grandeur of gesture, both in the music and the richness and invention of choreography, performed with amazing discipline whilst bringing out the humour it contained brought the audience at curtain call to a height of rapture which I have seldom experienced in the theatre: its younger members could scarcely contain their screams and cheers.

Powerful performances, really enjoyed Hush, great opening dance, light hearted and fun.
The dancing for "The Comedy of Change" was first class, the costumes very simple but clever, but I afraid we did not like the musical arrangement, felt it distracted from the performance.
"A Linhe Curva" was the highlight of the evening, so powerful with precision timing for so many dancers on stage, also full marks for the lighting.
Look forward to future visits to Theatre Clwyd, will recommend to friends
