621# Rambert Edinburgh 16th Feb

An excellent evening, really enjoyed it. Hush and A Linha Curva were danced very well, lively and I left the theatre feeling uplifted.

But.....However well Comedy of Change was danced, I could not see the Darwin connection and as biologist, that is kind of my subject! It looked lovely.

620# Rambert in Edinburgh

The dancing was superb throughout.
Hush was excellent - intriguing music, an intelligible theme, sensitively worked out. The younger daughter was brilliant. Comedy of Change represented current weaknesses in Rambert - pretentious and unexpressive of anything tangible (or intangible, for that matter). A Linha Curva was a copout - lively, entertaining and enjoyable, but basically just a gymnastic display.
And, oh - those dreadful programme notes. How pretentious and self-centred can you get? It would be good, just for once, to read something seriously informative about the works in question instead of these pathetic ramblings. So, watch out Rambert - you have wonderful dancers, but all these years of brilliance run the risk of fading into aimless obscurity.

The first piece, 'Hush', was delightful - skilful, witty and entertaining.
The last piece, 'A Linha Curva', was absolutely stunning - lively, colourful and very well co-ordinated. The dancers had such perfect timing that what could have turned chaotic never was, instead perfectly controlled throughout. The percussionists perched up at the back were simply brilliant.
But 'Comedy of Change', oh dear, simply awful. No doubting the skill of the dancers who had to cope with this rubbish, but the discordant racket (you could not call it music) was just frightful. Any connection to Darwin entirely escaped me. Don't bring this terrible piece back to the stage again.

615# Wow! Fantastic!

I have never been to see modern dance before, but my husband and I absolutely loved it. Hush was my favourite piece (I loved the music as well as the dance). Comedy of Change, to be honest, was visually stunning but I didn't find it as entertaining (nor the music as melodic). The final piece, A Linha Curva, was superb and quite mesmerising. Full of drum beats, energy and great style.
We were a bit nervous before going that this show would be too high brow and cultured for us to enjoy - but it was dazzling and great fun :o)

613# Comedy of Change

Very disappointing. After all the hype this piece of work failed to deliver. The dancers - as always - were excellent, but the choreography was extremely poor. It did not have any clear relationship to Darwin or evolution, certainly wasn't a "comedy", and was dull as a piece of dance. The opening scene was lovely, with the mirrored floor and the cocoons, and the costumes were unsual, but I'll be advising people to avoid it. Sorry - as I say, not the dancers' fault.
