Julia Gillespie
Julia was born in Sydney, Australia. Her initial ballet training was with Marie Walton-Mahon in Newcastle and then with Ashley Killar in Sydney. She completed her training at the Royal Ballet School, graduating in 2002. As a student she performed with the Royal Ballet and the Birmingham Royal Ballet. She subsequently danced with Ballet de Victor Ullate, Madrid and the Dutch National Ballet before joining Rambert in May 2010.
She has been privileged to work with leading choreographers including William Forsythe, David Dawson, Nicolo Fonte, Hans van Manen, Rudi van Dantzig and Kristof Pastor. As well as dancing most of the classical repertoire, she has also performed works by George Balanchine, Christopher Wheeldon and Ted Brandsen. Since joining Rambert she has had roles created on her by Mark Baldwin, and performed pieces by Itzik Galili, Merce Cunningham, Tim Rushton, Aletta Collins and Paul Taylor.
