Born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Dane trained at the Toynbee Ballet School. He won the National Dance Competition in Johannesburg 2002 and in 2003 was awarded a bursary by the Linbury Trust and Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust to train at the Rambert School.

In 2004 he joined Rambert Dance Company as the first recipient of the Sally Gilmour Memorial Trust bursary. In 2006 Dane was nominated for Best Emerging Dancer of the year and in 2007 awarded the Spotlight Award, Male Artist (Modern) by the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards.

He joined Phoenix Dance Theatre in 2007 and later made guest appearances for Rambert in Christopher Bruce’s Swansong as well as with National Dance Company of Wales. He rejoined the Company in August 2009, and was commissioned to create a new work for The Place prize for dance, which premièred in September 2010, as well as Jeremiah for Rambert's Season of new choreography. In 2011 Dane was commissioned to create three works for the InTransit Festival at the former Commonwealth Institute, sponsored by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

In 2012 Dane will choreograph for the 16th International Solo Dance Theatre competition in Stuttgart, Germany. danejeremyhurst.com
